Maybe Harriet Miers should consider resigning from her White House counsel position

One of the biggest criticisms of Harriet Miers' nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court is that she is too much of a crony of President Bush. There is a perception that she will not be independent enough from the White House, and indeed may be required to recuse herself from critical cases (such as Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood, the upcoming New Hampshire abortion regulation case, and cases involving the Global War on Terrorism) because she gave advice to the President or reviewed the position taken by the Solicitor General.

I don't have position yet on whether she should be confirmed--I'll wait for Senate Judiciary Committee hearings. I'm just suggesting that to show independence from the White House, she could immediately resign as White House counsel to show some independence from the White House.

Congratulations to the Chicago White Sox

On their first trip to the World Series since 1954, which was five years before I was born. They last won the World Series in 1917, and threw the series in the infamous Black Sox Scandal http://www.chicagohs.org/history.blacksox.html in 1919.

Today's Bible verse

Today's Bible verse is Isaiah 45:7. [God said] "I form light and create darkness. I make weal and create woe, I am the Lord who does all these things."

An all-powerful God. It gets back to the classic queston, "if God is all good and all-powerful, why is there suffering in the world?" The book I have says that "in this life, we will never find the answers to questions like these. We can only trust in God's ultimate mercy and mysterious ways."

Easy to say, hard to do.
I was inspired to start blogging by Prof. Ann Althouse. I also like Instapundit
Hello. This is my blog. I'm a 44-year old attorney who lives in Northern Virginia. This is probably going to be more like a diary at first, but we'll see.

Some of it is going to be about my faith. I attend Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Vienna, Virginia.

I'm proud to be an American and I support the Global War on Terrorism. I'm proud that the Iraqi people will be voting tomorrow on the constitution. I hope they will be able to avoid violence.

How do you add links, anyway?
